Explorer Summer Camp

A week’s worth of fun in two nights away!

Overnight camp is a classic childhood summer experience, but a whole week away can be overwhelming—whether for first-time campers or their parents. Explorer camp gives you the chance to make Barakel your own in just two nights and one full, action-packed day. You’ll arrive in time to meet your counselor and cabin mates, experience an evening Ambush game and chapel, and get rested up for a day of fun with your new friends. As a group, you’ll get a taste of all the Barakel fun: aim for a bullseye at the archery range, jump in our spring-fed lake, rumble down Thunder Express, play a sport like kickball or soccer, create a handcraft project, try out a hammock, join a nine-square or octoball game, and make amazing memories.

Our counselors love Jesus and love spending time with you! You’ll learn about God’s amazing love through three Chapel sessions with speakers who present God’s word in an engaging way. And you’ll be singing the songs for the rest of the year!

How Camp Works

Counselors at Barakel

Every camper will be a part of an 8-person cabin group (we call them tribes). If you come with one or two other friends that want to be with you in the same tribe, we will make sure that happens. One of our carefully selected and trained counseling staff will live, play, and worship with each tribe during their camp experience. The time at camp includes worship, supervised group activities, meals in the Dining Hall and on the ballfield, and resting. We gather three times (two evenings and a morning) for Chapel where we sing together and learn from God’s word.

Housing & Meals

The Barakel Westside dining hall tables

Our West Side camp features beautiful, modern lodges, tucked into the woods with easy walking access to activities. Each lodge has four sleeping units (each with their own bathroom) and a beautiful Great Room for fun and games. Meals will all be prepared in our Dining Hall. One supper will be enjoyed as a picnic on our beautiful ballfield lawn – weather permitting. Please let us know of any medically-necessary dietary needs on the health form.

To & from Camp

The Barakel buses arrive on East Side

Our big green buses make three conveniently located stops; pickup is on Monday and drop-off is on Thursday. Camp fun will begin as soon as you get on the bus, with special programming provided for the ride north to Barakel. This service is provided at no additional charge. Each bus is Department of Transportation inspected and driven by a licensed commercial driver and accompanied by adult attendants to assist campers.
