Ladies Retreats

A retreat just for women

Sometimes it’s so quiet in northern Michigan you can almost hear yourself smile. Other times the laughter in your group leaves your sides hurting. Bring some friends, or come by yourself. Choose from a whole lineup of activities on our 350 acres—or just enjoy not doing anything. The retreat will begin Friday afternoon with check-in and an evening buffet snack, and continue unhurried through the Sunday noon meal.

Speakers

Passionate proclaimers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Women who speak of His goodness and lovingkindness when we gather in the Chapel at Camp Barakel. They rise early to study the Bible. It’s their passion and it’s lived out when they leave their desk and enter into the lives of their families, neighbors, friends, and students. They are like fruitful vines. There is evidence of seeds taken root and thriving in the soil of their hearts. Their lives are marked by grace in relationships and hardships endured for the sake of Christ. This is the kind of woman you will hear when you come to a women’s event at Camp Barakel. They may not be famous but they are faithful.

Janet Aucoin
September 19-21, 2025.

Janet Aucoin is the Director of Women’s Ministry at Faith Church in Lafayette Indiana. She also enjoys being the host of Joyful Journey Podcast and says that the goal is to help women learn that when you choose truth, you choose joy!

Last Fall Janet and her husband Brent taught at our married couples retreat and were well received. Janet is certified as a Biblical Counselor and teaches at the Faith Community Institute. She brings her gifts and abilities alongside her husband as she assists him in a wide variety of ways. Among their many accomplishments they have also raised two children.

Jocelyn Kakkkuri
September 26-28, 2025.

Jocelyn serves on the women’s ministry team of Five Points Community Church in Auburn Hills Michigan. She has been acquainted with Camp Barakel through the church and through her children who have served on our Summer Staff. She and her husband Mark have 2 sons and 2 daughters. Recently they have added a couple of spouses to the family. The home and church have been Jocelyn’s central places of ministry since she graduated from Cedarville University and married Mark 31 years ago.

Jocelyn has a passion for studying the Word of God and learning how to apply it to all of life. We are eager to hear the truth she gathers from the Word of God to bring to our Fall Ladies Retreat in 2025.

Lois VanWageningen
October 3-5, 2025.

Lois has been making the journey to Camp Barakel for decades to speak at our Ladies Retreats. She has always been a favorite here. It’s a longer trip now since she moved from Port Huron Michigan to Florida where she lives with her husband Gerry. They raised 4 girls together and now foster relationships with their grandchildren and even great grandchildren.

Lois always has a Bible class that she is preparing for and teaching. She mines the Word of God for treasure and has no greater love than for her Savior and Lord. She counsels from the Word in a direct and loving manner. If you come to hear from God’s Word you will not be disappointed.

What to Know Before You Come

Packing Tips

Luggage at Camp Barakel

We want the best possible weekend of camp for you. To help make that happen, here are some things we suggest you pack.

Everyone should bring a Bible, notebook, bedding for a twin-sized bunk bed, pillow, towel, toiletries, good walking shoes, rain gear, and warm, casual clothing. You may also want to bring some spending money.

Chapel

Westside Chapel at Camp Barakel

Our aim is for you to grow closer to the Lord this weekend, and hearing the Word of God taught is the primary way we accomplish this in the Barakel setting.

We expect that everyone will attend Chapel services, and we’ll do our best to make them a highlight of your weekend.
