Speakers

Passionate proclaimers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Women who speak of His goodness and lovingkindness when we gather in the Chapel at Camp Barakel. They rise early to study the Bible. It’s their passion and it’s lived out when they leave their desk and enter into the lives of their families, neighbors, friends, and students. They are like fruitful vines. There is evidence of seeds taken root and thriving in the soil of their hearts. Their lives are marked by grace in relationships and hardships endured for the sake of Christ. This is the kind of woman you will hear when you come to a women’s event at Camp Barakel. They may not be famous but they are faithful.

Sharon Smith will be the speaker for our May 20-22, 2025 Mother and Daughter Retreat.

Sharon Ruth Smith is wife to Pastor Casey Dean Smith in Petoskey Michigan. Together they serve their congregation with the strength that God provides. As young people, God’s providence brought them together through their choice of Grand Rapids Baptist College. They now have 6 adult children and the number around the table at family gatherings is still growing.

Sharon is quick to acknowledge that she is no different than other women who are sinners saved by Grace. Her love for God’s Word is evident in her reputation of rising early to study it. She eagerly prepares to share what she finds there with Church women as well as young women in the broader community. As our speaker, she will bring energy and desire to communicate God’s Word to us.

What to Know Before You Come

Packing Tips

Luggage at Camp Barakel

We want the best possible weekend of camp for you. To help make that happen, here are some things we suggest you pack.

Everyone should bring a Bible, notebook, bedding for a twin-sized bunk bed, pillow, towel, toiletries, good walking shoes, rain gear, and warm, casual clothing. You may also want to bring some spending money.

Chapel

Westside Chapel at Camp Barakel

Our aim is for you to grow closer to the Lord this weekend, and hearing the Word of God taught is the primary way we accomplish this in the Barakel setting.

We expect that everyone will attend Chapel services, and we’ll do our best to make them a highlight of your weekend.

Special Chapel services are planned for younger daughters on Saturday and Sunday (daughters stay with their mothers on Friday evening).
